About Me

I am originally from California, but I got to Texas as quickly as I could. In California, I attended California State University, East Bay. After graduating from college, I moved to Hawaii for ten years. I have been teaching for nineteen years. I've taught first grade, second grade, third grade, and fourth grade. I love teaching first grade because who doesn't love being first. I have a daughter, Chelsie, who is a secondary science instructional coach in Conroe ISD. She has a two-year-old and a six-year-old.

First Grade

First grade is a learning extravaganza!

We take a science-based approach to teaching reading. Your child will learn phonics skills that will help them decode unfamiliar words and become more confident readers. Your child will learn strategies to help with comprehension and thinking beyond the text. We explore numerous genres, so learners have the opportunity to find books they enjoy and acquire a love for reading. I believe the best reading intervention is a good book.

Our math curriculum includes identifying and understanding the value of numbers up to 120. We work with number bonds, part-part-whole charts, math art, and number lines to solve math problems. Your child will learn to tell time to the hour and half-hour. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes are always fun. We use lots of manipulatives such as unifix cubes, pattern blocks, base ten blocks, and clocks to name a few. We solve a lot of problems in math.
